Melbourne Postcard #5

the sun is out on the corner
of Elizabeth and Collins
an old man plays
When Irish Eyes Are Smiling
on an accordion

there is light in his eyes

he doesn’t care
that he is almost twenty-
thousand kilometres from home
the angels have brought us
both here

Three Melbourne Postcards

women and sparrows
dripping grey clouds
details of a morning
meditation

*

old man with a bag
of rice
so few teeth
his smile
lets in
the light

*

girl with
the red umbrella
watches it
fill with pure
rain sky
