This past few weeks, I have been busily editing the long poem, ‘I, Land‘, I discussed in my Next Big Thing interview. I am now happy to say that it is as close to finished as any poem ever gets. I have also been excitedly meeting with two amazing Brisbane artists about how we can bring the poem to life as a performance piece. The possibilities discussed have got me buzzing…
One of the artists is Brisbane-based poet, photographer and filmmaker, Anna Jacobson. Anna has an incredible eye for the natural world, the poetic and the ephemeral. Here’s Anna’s film, Out of the Mist to give you a taste of what’s to come with the ‘I, Land‘ project. Collaboration is truly a thing of wonder!
The second Brisbane artist I have been talking too… well, that will be announced in good time. Enjoy chasing the lights of Friday.
QLD Poetry Festival is now only a matter of days away… and I am filling with that wonderful nervous energy that performing there brings. It is going to be a very special gig, as it wil be the first time Sheish and I have worked with a full band (Namedropper) together on stage and it will be the premiere screening of the photographs taken by Cindy Keong over the past 12 months. Together we will bring to life six poems from my latest collection, Ocean Hearted; the oral and visual narratives intertwining to deepen the experience for the audience.
And to top it off, we are performing in the same session with Emily XYZ & Myers Bartlett!
The full details are:

To give you all another taste of the performance, here is a short film for my poem White Crane, which we will perform as part of the session.
