Friday Night Lights Project: Week #31

The lights of Melbourne are a little hazy, as is my head after a massive day of delays – 6hrs to be precise – courtesy of a budget airline (Jetstar, that’s you!). But the Friday night lights continue to spark! This week Cindy conjures the red planet that Ashley is planning a mission to and I am luminous, leaping into the long future of the night.

Embrace the light!

herringbone sky
& it is winter
the cats sing

those who are fed
up with dying
walk out

into the shadow
of a rising moon
to apprehend

the mystery of light
startling heaven
as they take

from the air
a handful of lives
become luminous

and leap
into the long
future of night

I would rather talk about the beginning
the just opened box
the film maker’s one hundred un-edited hours

planning our mission to Mars
laying plutonium stores; the slow science
before we landed.

  1. How well the opening lines set the tone of the poem…enjoyed it much.

  2. Thanks for the journey, I’ve been off on my own distant planets lately but am glad to have splashed down here.
