Melbourne Postcard #5

the sun is out on the corner
of Elizabeth and Collins
an old man plays
When Irish Eyes Are Smiling
on an accordion

there is light in his eyes

he doesn’t care
that he is almost twenty-
thousand kilometres from home
the angels have brought us
both here

  1. Wonderful verbal snapshot of the scene.

  2. i agree with charles…a gorgeous snapshot…could almost hear him play..

  3. You sure that’s Melbourne you’re talking about – sunshine … ;) Just kidding – my Mum was from Melbourne so it is like a second home to me (it’s where I got my first gum boots). Lovely poem and sounds like you are enjoying the visit.

Was a great visit and the weather was absolutely sublime… in fact it has been wetter here since returning home than it was down there!
