Friday Night Lights Project: Week #8

Turn on, burn bright! It’s time to reignite the lights of Friday night!

**********

This time last week everything was in place
and the reporter had done her rough draft
story. It only needed to be filed
like the others. The camera man told her

she only had to think about the light
but tonight the sound bites are not coming
right and editors dispute her version
too subtle for the evening anchor

how she stands here looking at herself with
camera cables coiled like the Greek
symbol for infinity she feels at her feet
the infinite or anyway something

close to it. She only wants to touch
the hair on her forearm
and get the clear language
of goosebumps.

It was then, sunspots began
to swirl on her cheeks;
rowed up through darkness

The presence of God in the lights
of the heart-rate monitor; the panicked
whisper: wet my lips, wet my lips
