Time to flick the Friday night switch and light up your monitors. This week the three of us heat things up, with a surge of passion. And while you are reading, don’t forget to check out Cindy’s blog to view more of the photographs in this series and Ashley’s to catch up on how her ‘alphabet poems’ are progressing.

This is a soapy kitchen.
I mean the slick surfaces
wiped down rawness
chicken breasts split
on the counter
waiting for direct heat.
I mean the blue flicker
of a flame
a snake’s fork tongue
sensing that
which rises. I mean slightly
alkaline scent of my sweat
mixed with perfume
dabbed at the neck
and the hollow
space by the collar bone.
I mean the bowl shaped part
kisses cover like a lid
your mouth this slick
taste of meat.

You walk in and I turn on:
the coffee machine purrs and
the refrigerator simultaneously
sweats and breaks out in goosebumps.
The dishwasher succumbs to hot
flushes and the button on the toaster
turns red and pops.
You are a walking calamity:
when you smile the mechanisms
in my legs bloop like boiling
custard and the valves in my heart
start to whistle. Your beauty
is a power surge; so unpredictable
dangerously nice.

I must admit those are perhaps the most creative responses I can think of with that image,,,a was smiling all the way through both of the poems….a delightful end to my Friday evening….thanks!
Very pleased that this one put a smile on your face Charles.
I love this week’s results!
And ‘dangerously nice!’ Two poems and a photo can’t be wrong: domesticity is not as safe as supposed
haha – wonderful stuff – love the whistling valves in the heart!
Thanks Gabe!
Your beauty
is a power surge; so unpredictable
dangerously nice…..i just love this…
and i love ashley’s poem as well, engaging all the senses…very nice..
Oh yeah, this one’s got some chemistry!
I’ve not commented on a few Friday Night Lights, merely imbibed the beauty; so this comment should count as general praise for the whole project, like when your birthday is near Christmas so distant relatives give you a “combined present”.
Friday Night Lights is a wonderful idea, you all have contributed more than the sum of its parts. Looking forward to next Friday. Now I’ll skulk back into my darkened corner and wait!
Glad you are enjoying the ‘combined effect’ of the poems and images Mark. Like you, I am also looking forward to this Friday!
Mark, I understand the near-Christmas birthday analogy very well! Thanks for what you say, and please don’t retreat too far into the darkened corner.
great read @ Confit, Graham – it crackled!
Oh, how did I miss this one?! It should be titled ‘Friday Night Passion’
All marvellous contributions, but a special mention to Graham – I have to say that this is one of your very best poems.
